This territorial area includes the municipalities of Andria and Corato, in Puglia, with a total area of about 600 square kilometres and a population of almost 150,000 inhabitants.
Municipalities
Andria is located at 10 kilometres from the Adriatic Sea, on the lower slope of the Murgia hills and is the town with the largest territory in the area north of Bari. Twelve thousand hectares of the territory in the municipality of Andria belong to the National Park of Alta Murgia, and the town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The territory of the municipality of Corato includes a plain by the Adriatic coast that rises to the elevations of High Murgia, up to 614 m (at Masseria Pennacchio) .
Promotion of the heritage
Different activities have been undertaken to consolidate the rural economy, interpreting the territory, the local production, the environment, and the landscape, in all their variety, as a primary development resource, and creating a network for making local excellence known in order to attract new businesses and professions.
The paths
The "Paths and Flavours of the Emperor - The Route of Frederick II", are paths and itineraries around Castel del Monte, the most famous castle built by the Emperor Frederick II of Swabia and Unesco World Heritage Site. Walks, nature and relax among the outstanding culture, landscapes and food and wine of Andria and Corato (extra virgin olive oil, wine and cheese products), in the “heart of Puglia”, queen of the Mediterranean diet and lifestyle.
