ON THE TRACES OF THE LONGOBARDS PATH
The Samnite area has been since ancient times a place of conquest, and the many different peoples who have inhabited it have left behind a heritage of knowledge and flavours. Through the centuries, Samnites and Longobards shaped this area, while allowing local populations not only to survive but to distinguish themselves and excel in sectors such as agriculture and crafts.
The people who more than any other influenced the Taburno area were the Longobards, so much so that in 2011 the city of Benevento was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a Longobard City.
In many rural villages in the Lag Taburno area, one can still observe today the influence of Longobard culture, as for example in the municipalities of Solopaca, Frasso Telesino and Sant'Agata De' Goti.
The historical and cultural path On the Traces of the Longobards is marked and equipped along its ca. 21 km and divided into 5 stages. It leaves from the municipality of Solopaca and continues towards Frasso Telesino, Sant'Agata De' Goti, Moiano and Airola, where it connects with the Pilgrim Spirit path.
The whole route is on paved road, and accessible to anyone with a minimum level of fitness.
